Annapolis, MD - 05/17/10 -
Studio 180 Dance's owner, artistic director and instructor, Katie Carpenter, provided
special sessions to help the Daisy Troop and the Brownie Troop from Indian
Creek earn their Girl Scout Sports Badges! Carpenter demonstrated to the
girls that dance is, in fact, a sport by offering aerial dance instruction
followed by Zumbatomic®, a high cardiovascular dance fitness workout for
children. Carpenter also incorporated an improvisational game to exemplify how,
while dance is a sport, it is a sport that blends creativity and imagination.
Carpenter explains that, "working to help build the character of Girl Scouts made
me proud; I have learned so much through athletic dance, and I was able to
share that with the girls."
Because of the many forms of dance and fitness Studio 180
offers, many badges apply from sports and dance to creativity and imagination
badges. Carpenter and the Studio 180 faculty hope to host more scout troops in
the future as a great way to grow with the community.
Studio 180 Dance offers instruction in the traditional
disciplines of ballet, Pointe, tap, jazz, modern, hip hop, acro jazz,
and
lyrical as well as aerial dance, Zumba®, and Zumbatomic®. Studio 180
Dance also hosts a competitive dance
team. All
dancers are welcome, beginner through professional levels, ages 2
through
adult.
