Katie Carpenter King is the proud Owner and Artistic Director of Studio 180 Dance. A graduate of The University of Maryland, with a degree in French, she also holds a Master's Degree in European Policy and Politics from NYU. Ms. Katie is classically trained in ballet, modern, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, and tap, and has taught dance to and choreographed for students of all ages in studios and schools in the US and in France. She has performed professionally with The Collective Dance Company in Baltimore, MD and is the founder and creator of the "Dance Hard, Dance Strong" educational program that she brings to schools throughout the region to help children realize the importance of the healthy, strong lifestyle that can be achieved through dance. Ms. Katie has successfully completed teacher training courses in aerial dance at the New England Center for Circus Arts (NECCA) in Battleboro, VT and is a certified Zumba®, Zumbatomic®, and Piloxing Instructor. Ms. Katie's experience and passion for dance and all the benefits dance provides is shared with her students in classes of all ages, levels and dance disciplines. Her commitment to the importance of dance in all aspects of a child's education allows Ms. Katie the opportunity to dedicate her time to ensuring that each and every Studio 180 Dance dancer and family receives the education that they uniquely deserve. She continues to work hard to grow and improve the studio in a way that will allow all members of the Studio 180 Family to receive a current, knowledgeable, safe and exciting experience. Ms. Katie could not be more proud to serve as Owner and Artistic Director of Studio 180 and is so grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of each of her students' dance education!

Brooke Newman is starting her 10th year at Studio 180! Miss Brooke is senior faculty at the studio, having been with Studio 180 since the beginning, and has quickly become adored and admired by all of the dancers who have had the opportunity to work with her! Ms. Brooke is a graduate of The University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre and Dance. She has been dancing since the age of 2 and is classically trained in ballet, pointe, contemporary, modern, lyrical, jazz, and aerial and has taught dance to and choreographed for students of all ages with astounding success. Ms. Brooke has performed professionally with the New England Dance Ensemble and was a 4 year member of the Manchester Wolves Dance Team. Ms. Brooke has successfully completed teacher training courses in aerial dance at the New England Center for Circus Arts (NECCA) in Battleboro, VT and is the founder and creator of the increasingly popular "Ballet Sculpt & Tone" class at Studio 180. Ms. Brooke's ability to produce remarkable results, her exciting choreography, and her investment in and commitment to the Studio 180 dancers makes her one of the most sought-after teachers and choreographers at the studio. Ms. Brooke's choreography has won multiple choreography and technique awards at both the regional and national level and has worked with soloists of all ages to help them achieve various titles. As any dancer who has taken class with Ms. Brooke knows, she loves the students at Studio 180 Dance and looks forward to every class!

Breonna DeLoach is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. She began her dance journey at the young age of 4 under the instruction of Price Performing Arts Center (College Park, GA), where she was technically trained in the disciplines of ballet, tap, jazz, modern, contemporary and hip hop. During her training, Miss Breonna’s performances earned her multiple first place and platinum solo awards at both the regional and national competitive level, and gave her the opportunity to perform with Savion Glover as his opening act in “Classical Savion.” Additionally, Miss Breonna was awarded the title of Miss Teen DEA and the prestigious “Price Dance Scholarship Award of Excellence.” Miss Breonna is a graduate of Georgia State University where she received a BBA in Computer Information Systems. There she was President and choreographer for the Georgia State University Dance Ensemble for 4 years. Currently, Miss Breonna takes regular classes with master artists throughout the region to continue to improve her education in cutting edge technique, choreography and instruction. Miss Breonna’s continued drive to provide the best dance education to her students makes her a perfect fit for the Studio 180 Family. Studio 180 is thrilled to have the opportunity to provide our dancers with an instructor with such vast and knowledgeable experience, and Miss Breonna can’t wait to share her passion for dance to help Studio 180 continue on its path to success!

Miss Sylvie is very excited to return to Studio 180 this year. Miss Sylvie was born and raised in Upstate New York. She began dancing at the age of 6 with training in ballet, lyrical, pointe, jazz, tap, and musical theater. Miss Sylvie attended the State University of New York College at Geneseo where she majored in Political Science and minored in Business and Dance. There she was a member and choreographer of Geneseo's Orchesis Dance Group, Geneseo's Dance ensemble, and senior captain of the Geneseo Dance Team, Knightline. She was the Head of the Dance department at Camp Micah in Bridgton, ME for 3 summers during her time at Geneseo. Miss Sylvie recently graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law. She danced previously with Common Ground Dance Company and currently performs with the professional company at Kinetics Dance Theatre. Miss Sylvie is looking forward to another successful year at Studio 180!

Jessica John is excited to continue her role as a Studio 180 aerial dance and flexibility instructor! In addition to being a member of the Studio 180 Faculty, Miss Jessica teaches aerial arts in DC at the Trapeze School of New York and in Virginia at Buffa's Dance Studio, Forever Dancing, and Spark Yoga. Miss Jessica is also certified in the Gyrotonic method and the Functional Movement Screen and works as a trainer and physical therapy aide at Elements Fitness and Wellness in DC. In 2016, she co-founded Steal A Step to create independent works that push the bounds of American contemporary circus. Miss Jessica is also the Founder and Creative Director of Vaudoux Aerial Dance Theatre, which regularly performs throughout the US and Canada. She is originally from New Orleans, LA, and is trained in ballet, jazz, and modern, with special emphasis in McLeod Technique. She has a BA in political science from the University of Colorado at Boulder, an MA in legislative affairs from George Washington University, and a JD from Boston University. Miss Jessica has been training and performing aerial arts--including aerial silks and sling, static and dance trapeze, vertical rope, straps, static and single-point cloudswing, and lyra--for over 8 years. She credits Rachel Walker and Sarah Poole on dance trapeze and Brandy Leary, Emiliano Ron, and Leo Hedman on rope as coaches that have shaped her performance quality and teaching philosophy. Miss Jessica's passion is for developing young dancers who have a love for circus arts into professional-quality artists through emphasis on strength training, impeccable technique, and innovative choreography. She is an active member of the American Circus Educators Association and regularly volunteers her time for Circus Now and the American Youth Circus Organization. www.jessicajohncircus.com

Kelsey Harper is Studio 180's acro-dance instructor and we are so lucky to have her back again for another awesome year! Miss Kelsey is from a small town in VA and her passion for coaching and tumbling combined with her commitment to each individual student's improvement gives her a unique advantage as the Studio 180 Acro teacher. Miss Kelsey has been cheering since the age of 5, which led her to a competitive cheer career in her teenage years. Since then, she has earned her degree in childhood education while simultaneously being awarded the title of Most Valuable Cheerleader. Because of her commitment to education and gymnastics, she then earned the student leadership scholarship at her school and ultimately became team captain and coach. Through these experiences, Miss Kelsey realized how influential her background in education and cheerleading could be, which has allowed her to become a sought-after tumbling coach, something she has been doing since 2009. Miss Kelsey has coached throughout Maryland and Virginia and currently, in addition to helping the Studio 180 dancers become more versatile and explore new forms of movement, she is also an early education teacher. Miss Kelsey received her teacher certification in Acrobatic Arts in 2016. Studio 180 is so excited to be given the opportunity to learn from such an enthusiastic and passionate instructor and Miss Kelsey is really looking forward to bringing her knowledge, experience, passion and creativity to our dance family again this year!

Andrew Parr is joining Studio 180 again this year as the musical theater instructor and we can't wait! In addition to his role as instructor, we are thrilled that Mr. Andrew will also be serving as a Dance Co. Advisor, advising our competitive dancers and helping them in their performance and he will also be serving as store manager at Annapolis Dancewear! Acting came naturally to Mr. Andrew his junior year of high school, and he has since been involved in various projects and shows. His favorite leading role was Billy Crocker in ANYTHING GOES. He graduated from Millersville University in PA with a bachelor of education in English and a minor in German and Theater. Over the last few years, he has dabbled in various theatrical mediums including writing, junior theater, dance, plays, musicals, stage design/production and theater education. Recently, he has started a theater collaboration project and exchange with the Gymnasium Uslar near Gottingen, Germany and choreographed with the Performing and Visual Magnet Arts School in AACPS. In the Fall of 2014, Mr. Andrew became director of the Annapolis High School Drama Company and now holds the position of Program Chairman for the Cappies of Baltimore, a theatre critic and award program for Maryland. Additionally, Mr. Andrew's AHS Drama Company won 4 Cappies for Lighting, Senior Critic, Rising Critic, and Critic Team! On a more personal note, he enjoys frivolous musicals, long walks on the stage and beautiful backdrops with the right lighting. Mr. Andrew cannot wait to share his experience and knowledge of theatre with the dedicated members of Studio 180 and to watch them develop into seasoned performers!
Sarah Shellam is super excited to be continuing at Studio 180 as an aerial instructor! Prior to her position here at the studio and her training at the New England Center for Circus Arts, Miss Sarah attended culinary school and worked as a pastry chef. She is now a returning student at the University of Maryland, studying atmospheric and oceanic science. The demanding hours caused her to search for stress-relieving activities, where she found aerial yoga and eventually aerial dance! Miss Sarah took her very first aerial class at Studio 180 and immediately fell in love. She soon realized that she couldn't get enough time in the air and couldn't keep her enthusiasm to herself. Miss Sarah is very excited to have the opportunity to share what she loves with the Studio 180 dancers and looks forward to working with each of them!
Studio 180 is so excited tohave Ms. Corinne Elkins return to Studio 180 this year! Ms. Corinne is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee and attended the University of Cincinnati as a Cincinnatus Scholarship recipient, graduating in 2014 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. She is trained in ballet, pointe, modern, jazz, tap and somatic studies. Ms. Corinne has choreographed at annual showcases and performed in classical ballets and contemporary works and attended various summer intensives including LINES Ballet, CPYB, Joffrey, Complexions and more. Upon graduation, Corinne joined the Ballet Theater of Maryland where she continues to be a member of the company today-she joined as an Apprentice and was promoted to Demi-Soloist in 2017. She expanded her training that same year by becoming Power Pilates certified. Ms. Corinne is so excited to share her knowledge of dance as well as helpful forms of cross-training with the Studio 180 students and we are thrilled to have her!
Please welcome CJ Cunningham as our newest hip hop instructor at Studio 180! CJ is a Howard Community College Dance Company Alumni; he has been dancing for most of his life and teaching since he was 18. As an up and coming dancer and choreographer you can find him all over the Maryland and DC area. He can be found at Howard Community College, Carroll Community College and many other dance studios. CJ has had the privilege to be able to learn various styles of hiphop from some of the best in the business including the choreographers that work for Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Americas Best Dance Crew and So You Think You Can Dance. He is currently a member of Kinetics Dance Theaters professional dance company and runs his own company "Fusion Entertainment" and crew "FloMotion". His style mixes many kinds of dance into hiphop to create a unique look for his dancers and shows. He has had the privilege to choreograph not only hip hop dances but also Tap dance, musical theater, wedding dances, and modern dances. His constant high energy demands everyones attention, dancers and audience member alike! CJ is honored and excited to be apart of the Studio 180 Family!
Katie Embser (Aerial)
Please welcome Katie Embser to the Studio 180 Faculty! Katie Embser is thrilled to return as an aerial instructor to the Studio 180 family this year and we are so excited to have her join our incredible list of faculty! She is a 20 year old student at the University of Maryland, where she is a double major in Finance and Studio Art. Starting in 2011, Miss Katie began her aerial dance career here at Studio 180 as a member of the Junior Aerial Company, and currently works at the Trapeze School of New York in DC. She has trained corde lisse, dance trapeze, lyra, and strap loop under the coaching of Alter Circus’s artistic director, Jessica John, which is where she found her passion for spinning. She has performed professionally in Alter Circus’s Hysterical, Steal A Step’s Kick Before You Drown, and as a pre-professional in Vaudoux Aerial Dance Theatre’s Hall of Mirrors, Adrift, Gris, and Away. Miss Katie is incredibly excited to share her love for dance and is looking forward to another great year with the dance family. We are so lucky to have her and can’t wait for all of our Studio 180 aerialists to learn from such a talented artist and instructor!

Victor Adebusola is so excited to come back to Studio 180 again this year as a hip hop instructor and Dance Co. coach! Mr. Vic started his dance career in 2002 while he was still in high school at a studio in Baltimore, MD, where he trained in ballet, tap, modern, jazz and hip hop for several years. After graduating high school, Mr. Vic attended the University of Maryland, College Park, where he received his Bachelors degree in Government & Politics and his Masters degree in Nonprofit Management and Leadership. During his time at UMD, he began dancing with the Dynamic Hip Hop Dance team, and held positions of both Vice President and President of the team. After graduation, Mr. Vic joined Culture Shock D.C., and eventually became Chief Artistic Director. Culture Shock D.C. has provided Mr. Vic the opportunity to travel to places such as Los Angeles, San Diego, Ottawa, Canada, and New York showcasing with the troupe. Mr. Vic has also taught nationally and internationally, at locations such as the University of North Carolina, Virginia Tech, George Mason University, and most recently teaching abroad in Toronto and Ottawa, Canada. Mr. Vic is also an adjunct faculty member at George Mason University teaching beginner and intermediate Hip Hop courses. Mr. Vic has choreographed several competition-winning pieces for dance studios in the Maryland and DC area. Recently he has taken on the full time role as choreographer, dancer and instructor in pursuit of his goal and dream of becoming a household name in the dance community and a professional working dancer/choreographer. With Mr. Vic's new-found commitment and all of his knowledge and skilss, he is looking forward to continuing to spread his knowledge and love for dance to the Studio 180 dancers this year!
Maddy Micek is continuing her role as an aerial instructor at Studio 180! Many Studio 180 dancers know Miss Maddy because she has been a student with us from the beginning and has since been seen in a variety of different classes as an apprentice to the Studio 180 faculty. This year, we are thrilled to have her join us as an instructor! In addition to her training at the studio, Miss Maddy has been flying with various instructors at the Trapeze School of New York and has recently successfully completed the New England Center for Circus Art’s Teacher Training program. Her expertise in all disciplines of aerial dance and her patient and thoughtful demeanor have made her a beloved Studio 180 student and we have no doubt that she will earn the respect and love of her own students just as quickly. Miss Maddy is so excited to begin her new role here at the studio and we can’t wait to have her help improve and advance our aerial program!
ELYSIA GREENE MERRILL
This year, Mrs. Elysia will not be able to serve as a full-time Studio 180 Faculty member, but we are thrilled that is willing to serve as a guest instructor and to bring out passion as well as technique! Originally from Richmond, VA, Elysia was in Fusion Dance Company and performed in 2009 with Amalgamate Dance Company and Ad Deum Dance Company in NYC. She is a 2013 graduate from Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University with her BFA in Dance. While at Shenandoah, she danced for Ekilibre Dance Company and studied various disciplines in the Pre-Professional Conservatory curriculum. Spending her final semester abroad in Europe, Elysia was given the opportunity to dance with Nederlands Dans Theater and Tavaziva Dance Company. Elysia is the recipient of numerous awards including the Shenandoah University Outstanding Senior Award, the Shenandoah University Terpsichore Award for Excellence in Performance and various scholarships. Since graduating, Elysia has had the opportunity to dance with BARE Dance Company in NYC, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, ARCOS Dance in Austin, TX and Ad Deum in Houston, TX. She is currently a member of Motion X Dance DC and is performing throughout the Greater DC Area as a professional dancer. Her recent collaboration with MXDC was voted "2015 Best of the DC Capital Fringe!" Elysia also performed in the Dancing With the Stars Tour in 2007 & 2008 and her husband, David, directs the Music & Fine Arts at Woods Presbyterian Church in Severna Park.
